Although the Tillandsia Air Plants are easy to care for they can very easily be under watered or over watered. Watering depends on location, temperature, and humidity.
Outdoor Care Tips
We recommend watering your outdoor Tillandsia Air Plants every time you would water your other outdoor plants. In any outdoor environment where the humidity is 50 % or less it is difficult to over water your plants unless it is very cold. You will want to generally water more frequent the warmer and drier the air. Once the Tillandsia Air Plants are wet they will start to hydrate and do not require more water, by adding more water this will not increase the hydration levels. When humidity levels are higher the plants do not dry out as quickly and this can cause rot, we recommend keeping the plants from becoming too wet too frequent during these times.
Indoor Care Tips
Watering you indoor Tillandsia Air Plants can be done by misting or submerging the plant. Although misting can be a sufficient way of hydrating your plants this method can be over sufficient or under sufficient. The Tillandsia Air Plants can look dehydrated but actually be moist in the center of the plant. If the crevasses of the plant remain too moist this can cause rot. The most efficient way to water would be to submerge the Tillandsia Air Plants in water (rain or bottle water) for an hour. The leaves of the Tillandsia plant will change to a green color to indicate proper hydration. Once removed from the water turn the Tillandsia Air Plants upside down and gently shake off any excess water. Watering by submerging will keep your plants hydrated for approximately a week in average conditions.
