Bonsai (Round Robin) Demonstration

We had the pleasure of helping set up the Satsuki Bonsai Society show in Orange County this month.  The show was a great success with a great turnout.  Our resident bonsai artist, Jason Chan, had a tree on display and also participated in a bonsai round robin demonstration with a Prostrata Juniper which was later auctioned at the show.

What is a round robin bonsai demonstration?

A bonsai round robin demonstration is an event where bonsai artists openly styles a tree from start to finish from raw material.  Visitors and guests are welcome to ask questions and take a close look at how an artist styles a tree from raw material, or tree that straight from the nursery in a growers can.  A round robin demonstration specifically features more than one artist working at the same time on different trees. Styling includes choosing/cutting branches, heavy bending, wiring, and arranging.  Demonstrators can either work each on a different species of tree or on different styles.  Demonstrations are a great way to learn more about how to work with your tree and style it.

If you have the chance, join your local bonsai club.  Participating in the your local bonsai club is a great way to learn more about the art of bonsai as well as receive more information on local shows and exhibitions.
