What are Suiseki Stones?

Suiseki Stones, or sometimes referred to as viewing stones are naturally occurring stones.  Most often gathered or collected from streams and rivers.  Each stone features its own unique characteristics.  Some have brightly colored patterns while others feature special shapes and textures.

The shapes and character of each individual stone are sometimes found to resemble figures, landscapes, or paintings.  These variations are what make each stone unique and attractive to collectors.

Often displayed on a wooden stand or “Daiza”,  Suiseki stones are popularly collected and displayed prominently.  They are usually polished to bring out the colors of the stones. However, they are never machined as any type of man made element added to the stone will detract from it’s natural character and value.
